A Samsung refrigerator stopped cooling and displayed C21. On this service call, replacing the freezer fan restored normal cooling. The code helped narrow down what to look at, but it was not a reason to order a fan without first identifying the problem.

What happened on this repair
The refrigerator was not maintaining its usual cooling and was showing C21. The freezer fan was the part replaced on this job. The photos below show the replacement fan and the freezer opened up during the repair. After the replacement, the refrigerator cooled normally again.

What does C21 mean on a Samsung refrigerator?
Samsung’s U.S. support guide lists 21E as a freezer fan error: the refrigerator is not detecting the expected feedback from the fan. Samsung notes that ice around the fan or a failed fan motor can both trigger that error. Record the exact characters on your display and the model number, since the code format can vary.
Does that mean you need a new fan?
Not necessarily. A fan obstructed by ice and a fan that has failed can both stop circulating air, but they do not call for the same repair. Samsung also notes that a freezer door left ajar or a gap in the gasket can contribute to icing. On this particular refrigerator, a new freezer fan resolved the cooling problem. What to tell the technician
Take a photo of the code before trying to clear it. Note which compartment is warming, whether the freezer drawer closes fully, and whether you noticed frost or a new scraping noise. Share the full model number when you request service. That information helps narrow the problem before any parts are ordered.
